Swindon will have its new mayor by 3.30pm on Friday afternoon.
The annual meeting of Swindon Borough Council Starts at 2.30pm at the council chamber at the civic offices in Euclid Street.
One of the main functions of the meeting is to swear in the town’s new mayor.
Although the mayor is elected by councillors and is not a done deal, it would be a surprise if Labour councillor Abdul Amin is not elected to the top job.
Coun Amin has been deputy mayor for two years rather than the more normal one year.
The first mayoral year 2020-21 of retiring Mayor Garry Perkins was ruined by the Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions so he was voted in unanimously for a second term, ending on Friday.
As well as the new mayor, 10 new councillors - four Conservatives and six Labour - will be sworn in at the meeting.
Councillors will also vote on a new leader and deputy leader of the authority.
The Conservative group leader David Renard, having been elected by his colleagues again last week, will be re-elected barring something very unexpected as the Conservatives has a comfortable majority of 11 in the council chamber.
Councillor Gary Sumner will be the deputy leader, having taken the role from Russell Holland last year.
