Swindon Town supporters are being urged to contact Staffordshire Police with information following the match between the Reds and Vale.

After Ellis Landolo missed his penalty for Town, supporters of the home side stormed the pitch in what were disgraceful scenes.

Vale supporters confronted the Robins players where defender Mandela Egbo was allegedly assaulted.

A number of Swindon supporters were also caught up in the violence.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Town manager Ben Garner said that he and his players felt “afraid for their safety” as the opposition’s fans punched and kicked the Robins on the pitch.

He added: "It needs to be looked at and dealt with quickly. I know (Sheffield United striker) Billy Sharp was headbutted the other night – it’s madness, just absolute madness. I think something needs to be done before something serious happens."

Officers have confirmed that they are working with Port Vale Football Club and Swindon Town Football Club to investigate an alleged assault that took place following the fixture at Vale Park.

Now police in Swindon have urged anyone with information about last night’s incident to contact Staffordshire Police, who have confirmed that they are investigating the scenes.

Town supporters can do this by phoning 101, ask for Staffordshire Police and then quote 213 as of May 19.

Superintendent Gemma Ward, Head of Force Operations, said: “Staffordshire Police and Port Vale are committed to ensuring that events at Vale Park are safe and enjoyable for everyone in attendance.

“Anyone seeking to ruin this will be firmly dealt with – such actions have no place in our local community. A thorough investigation is now underway.”

A spokesman for Port Vale FC confirmed that the club will not tolerate such irresponsible behaviour and remains committed to taking the strongest possible action against anyone found guilty of being involved in criminal activities – including barring individuals from future games.
