MANY big celebrations are planned for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend around the town.

As the nation marks 70 years of Her Majesty's reign, Swindon will be pulling out all the stops for the occasion.

The Adver has put together a round-up of all the Jubilee-related events going on between June 1 and June 5. Have a look - and let us know if we've missed any!

The inSwindon BID is putting together a few celebrations in the town centre.

The Big Jubilee Picnic will see picnic facilities set up by the fountain, along with live music, stilt walkers, walkabout characters and jubilee crafts from 11.30am to 3pm June 1 to 3.

The Wyvern Theatre will have Pop Princesses perform at 1pm on June 1, then drag queen cabaret act The Fabulous Miss Bridy and The Two Notes will host a night of celebrations and party songs on June 3 from 9pm.

An exhibition of street party photographs and artwork will be held at Artsite in Theatre Square from 11am to 4pm May 30 to June 4.

The Jubilee Retail Market will be held at Wharf Green from 9am to 3pm, June 2 and 4, along with fitness classes by Buzz Gym at The Fountain on June 4 from 10am to 3pm, and Platinum Platters with free parking at Regent Circus on June 2 and 4.

Elsewhere, the Old Town Business Association is organising a party on Wood Street on Sunday June 5 from 12pm to 5pm.

Live music throughout the day will feature iconic and classic songs from across the reign of The Queen, from the 1950s to the present day, as well as dance performances, street performers plus some ‘royal’ guests who will be hosting a singalong with the children.

Swindon will join with towns and cities across the country with lighting its Jubilee Beacon at Lydiard Park on Thursday June 2 at 9.30pm, with a bell-ringing and service at St Mary’s Church beforehand at 7.30pm, attended by dignitaries including Mayor, Councillor Abdul Amin, and Mayoress, Subena Akhtar, South Swindon MP Robert Buckland and Clare Garrett, Deputy Lieutenant for Wiltshire.

Pimms in the Park will be held from June 3 to 5 at Lydiard Park (12-10pm Fri/Sat, 12-8pm Sunday.

The free-to-attend community event to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee will have all its profits donated to good causes in Swindon.

MK Garrison will bring Star Wars characters, and there will be live music, classic cars, arts and craft stalls, tombola, raffle, treasure hunt, Steven Hill’s Funfair.

The Eldene Community Big Lunch will be held at Eldene Community Centre on Sunday.

Cricklade Leisure Centre has a jam-packed fun day in store from 11am to 4pm on June 5, with Cricklade’s Got Talent, a funfair, an ice cream van, go-karts, tug of war, fitness class displays, face-painting, e-scooters, stilt walkers, petanque, arts and crafts, gifts, the Cricklade choir, Cricklade sports teams taster sessions, a barbecue, Siggy the Dog display, a bar, Minety dance performance, an electric vehicle stand, and more.

Parking is available at St Sampson's School.

Another fun day is being held at Stanton House Hotel on the same day from 12pm to 5pm.

There will be food, drink, face-painting, live music, a bouncy castle, carnival games, a tombola, stalls, ice cream, and a ‘best-dressed Queen’ competition. £25 for two adults and two children, £10 per person, and children under two get free entry.

Wroughton is having a Picnic in the Park at The Weir Field on June 4 from 12.30pm to 4.30pm, with live music from Royal Soul, children's entertainer Jacko and Nunkie, story corner, facepainting, a fire engine and police car, refreshments, immersive youth theatre, local history, children’s and youth activities.

Residents will be able to dress up in the Parish Council photo booth where they can take selfies with a special guest or enter a royal-themed fancy dress competition.

Children can meet author Steve Anthony and artist Hannah Dosanjh, who have written and illustrated a story about the Queen visiting Wroughton, and go on a Storywalk in Willow-brook Gardens.

Stratton St Margaret Parish Council is hosting an event at Grange Leisure and Community Centre from midday on June 5.

The traditional street party-style event will include afternoon tea, beer tents, food stalls, a dog show, inflatable fun, games, and more.

South Marston will be celebrating the Queen's Jubilee in style with four days of events over the extended bank holiday weekend.

Thursday will have a big lunch at the Carpenters Arms from 12pm to 3pm (booking required - 01793 823997) and a Right Royal Quiz Night at The Carriers from 8.30pm.

Friday will include an evening of live music at The Carpenters Arms from 7pm.

Saturday will have a packed schedule, with a children's party from 11am, a dog show at 3pm, and a Party in the Park at 7pm, all on The Rec.

There will be a village history walk and talk on Sunday at 2pm, along with complimentary cream tea supplied by TJ Linnett at The Village Hall from 3.30pm to 5.30pm for neighbours aged 65 and over, and cake and refreshments at the church between 3pm and 5pm.

Highworth will light its Jubilee Beacon at 9.30pm on Thursday after an 8pm service at The Podium. Festivities will continue over the weekend.

Saturday will see the usual market held in the High Street along with food vendors, games, magicians, storytime sessions, arts and crafts, live music, and parades from 9.30am to 5pm.

Bake-off entries can be submitted at 10am with the winners announced at 4pm. 

Sunday's party lasts from 10.30am to 5pm, with fair rides, obstacle course, inflatables, exhibitions, virtual reality, falconry displays, and a big screen broadcasting the Jubilee Pageant.

Nine-year-old Zachary Raval has organised a street party for his neighbours on Dunbar Road on Sunday from 3pm.

The Mechanics Institution Trust event will be on June 3 at the Community Centre and Bakers and Railway Village Museum from 11am to 3pm.

The Boom Battle Bar is having an All-British Brunch on June 4 from 2pm to 6pm. Last entry at 3pm, with bottomless service, decorations, bottomless drinks for 90 minutes, and a British street food platter with fish and chips, beef burger sliders, scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam.

A DJ will be mixing British classics and anthems, and there will be a live performance by Tom Seth Johnson.

Councillor David Renard, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime event that everyone should enjoy.

“It is such a tremendous milestone that our Queen Elizabeth II has been on the throne for 70 years is something that we should all celebrate.

“We’re pleased to see so many applications for road closures and events in Swindon and I hope everyone has a great weekend."

Some Swindonians will be celebrating at the Party at the Palace in London on June 4.
