As the restoration of the historic Queen's Park Hothouse continues, Swindon schoolchildren have been hard at work painting a Jubilee mural on the boards that surround it.

Pupils and staff from Lawn Manor Academy teamed up with South Swindon Parish Council to add a touch of colour to the plain green boardings protecting the building site.

They attended a painting session on the morning of Friday, May 27, and worked with Sally Taylor and Sue Bardwell from Artsite & The Post Modern to paint the mural commemorating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Sally and Sue have been working on the design of the mural for the past few months and started painting the weekend of June 21.

The mural will be in view at the Parish Council’s Big Jubilee Lunch on June 5.

The parish council has teamed up with Artsite and The Post Modern to create this mural as part of the Parish Council's series of activities to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Councillor Chris Watts, chair of the parish council, said: “It’s great to have Artsite and local schools involved in the painting the Jubilee mural that the Parish Council is commissioned. This neatly dovetails with the Jubilee Event taking place in Queen’s Park this Sunday.”
