SEVERAL Swindon choirs will be performing in an iconic Old Town venue this weekend.

The Community Choral Festival will be held at the Old Town Bowl from 1pm on Sunday.

There will be 14 choirs of all sizes singing, including the Carers in Harmony, Kentwood Choir, Swindon Community Choir, The Deanery Academy Choir, Reach Inclusive Arts, the Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Grace Notes, Ellendune Entertainers, Spotlight Performing Arts, and Crescendo.

Guests can pop down without booking in advance and have a picnic while enjoying the music, and songs. Hot dogs, burgers, tea, coffee and cake will be sold, and a licensed bar will be set up.

A spokesman for the event said: "The purpose of the festival is to showcase the diversity of talent in Swindon, providing a family day of music in the town’s iconic venue, and what better way to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee, than an event organised by a group which received one of the first Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service in 2011."

There will be a free singing workshop at 12pm, before the performances begin.

All proceeds and profits will go to the Open Door Centre. The charity exists to make a positive difference in the lives of adults with learning disabilities by providing a range of activities within a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment.
