A series of summer theatre shows at the Town Gardens is set to kick off with an adaptation of Shakespeare comedy As You Like It.
The adaption, brought to Swindon by The Lord Chamberlain's Men, will be the first of many in South Swindon Parish Council's Theatre At The Bowl series when it takes place this coming weekend.
The Lord Chamberlain’s Men is the UK’s premier all-male theatre company – with direct links to the history of William Shakespeare – presenting Shakespeare’s work as he first saw it; all male, in the open air and with Elizabethan costume, music and dance.
Peter Stickney, artistic director and producer of The Lord Chamberlain's Men said: “As You Like It is a wonderfully warm, funny and rich play. We follow our main characters as they flee or are exiled from the court to set up new lives in the Forest of Arden. There they find love, freedom and, ultimately, happiness.
"Experiencing Shakespeare’s productions outside, where he first saw them, is a truly special thing."
Tickets for As You Like It at the Town Gardens Bowl on Sunday, 19 June at 6.30pm are available to book online at www.theatreatthebowl.co.uk
