A Swindon man has been charged with a racially abusing former England footballer Ashley Cole.
Lee Oscroft , 24 of Kingshill Road is accused of racially aggravated harassment and using threatening or abusive words likely to cause harassment alarm or distress.
It follows a long investigation after reports Cole was abused while on punditry duty for ITV for Swindon Town's FA Cup clash against Manchester City at the County Ground on January 7.
Oscroft will appear at Swindon Magistrates' Court on July 19 at 2pm.
Wiltshire Police said in a statement: “This follows an incident in which former England footballer Ashley Cole, who was part of the ITV broadcast team, was subject to racial abuse following the Swindon Town vs Manchester City match at the County Ground on January 7."
Town put in a valiant effort against the Premier League champions opponents but ended up losing 4-1.
