A TEENAGE boy has pleaded guilty to rape.

The boy had been due to stand trial at Swindon Youth Court on June 16 accused of one count of raping the girl in the town, when he changed his plea to guilty.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named because he is a youth, has now had his case adjourned pending sentencing.

The offence, which dates back to 2020, states that the Swindon boy’s victim did not consent to sexual activity, and he did not reasonably believe that she was consenting.

The boy was released on conditional bail by District Judge Timothy Pattinson, pending sentencing at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court – where the District Judge usually sits - on July 25. During this time, a pre-sentence report will be prepared by the probation service.

Court records show that an “all options” report is being prepared – which would include the possibility of custody.

The defendant must also register with Gablecross police station in accordance with the sex offenders’ register “for a period that will be specified when the case has been dealt with”.
