Work is currently taking place at Silverwood School near Rowde to create 350 "much-needed" school places for children with special needs or disabilities.

The school announced that the high-quality provision was being created in October last year- and a time-lapse video was recently shared by Wiltshire Council, showing the progress that has been made already.

The video features the surfaces being prepared, and ready for development.

It is set to be completed by September 2023, with a further phase of the programme delivering 50 more places at the school by September 2024.

The executive headteacher Sean Mckeowen at Silverwood said in a letter distributed to parents: “The proposals include creating a "school within a school" feel with a community of small teaching clusters that will provide a range of specialist teaching spaces, therapeutic support, and quiet dining.

“There will also be a hydrotherapy pool, a new all-weather sport pitch, new playing fields, landscaping, and ecological enhancements.

“A key consideration of the design has been to develop proposals that are sensitive to the beautiful countryside setting and protect the biodiversity of the site, for example with badger gates and bat corridors.”

The school has three campuses: Chippenham, Rowde and Trowbridge, including an associated post-16 provision which is linked to Chippenham Campus.
