Police has revealed data on all crimes reported in April 2022, uncovering Swindon's most crime-prone area.

There has been a big increase in reported crimes in Swindon in the months of 2022.

Although the number of crimes was at a high in the summer of 2021, with 1,943 crimes being reported in Swindon in June that year, it calmed down during the winter months.

In February 2022, the number was down to 1,463, but this number soared in March, when it increased by 16% as 1,699 crimes were reported in the town.

In April of this year, the number increased once again to 1,770 reported crimes. This is 17 fewer crimes compared to April 2021, when 1,787 crimes were reported.

But comparing crime numbers in Swindon from throughout the past years, the number is expected to increase again during the summer months.

Although the number of most reported crimes decreased during the pandemic, especially during the months of lockdown, the numbers have once again started to increase to what they were before the start of the pandemic.

This map shows all the 1,770 crimes reported in Swindon in April 2022.

Of the 1,770 crimes reported in Swindon in April 2022, 594 were reported as violence and sexual offences, equaling 33% of all crimes reported that month.

Most of these crimes took place in the town centre, as well as northern parts of Swindon, such as Penhill and Haydon.

The second most common crimes were anti-social behaviour, which equalled 23% of all reported crimes in the town in April.

These were once again was most prominent in the town centre.

Out of the 410 reported crimes relating to anti-social behaviour, 156 took place in the town centre.

Haydon, Walcot and Liden were the most occurring areas for anti-social behaviour crimes, as well as the town centre.

Criminal Damage and Arson stood for 8% (144) of the most reported crimes, making it the third most common crime in the area this month.

These crimes were mostly reported in the town centre, and Westlea (around West Swindon District Centre and ASDA West).

Overall, the town centre, Walcot, Gorse Hill, Haydon and Penhill stood out as the most crime-prone areas in April 2022, with over 100 crimes occurring in each part of the town.

The least reported crime in April was bicycle thefts, as only 17 bikes were reported as thefts. These took place in the town centre, West Swindon shopping district, Pinehurst, Upper Stratton, and Haydon.
