A Swindon man has been banned from drinking after he admitted a host of charges including assault, sending threatening messages and criminal damage.

Matthew Luke Iles last month admitted to assaulting the same women twice in a week - once on March 5 and a second time on March 12.

The 30-year-old was also charged on March 14, 2022 with taking a Vauxhall Corsa from Twickenham Close without the owner's consent.

The same day, he drove this car on Twickenham Close in Swindon without third-party insurance.

Iles was also charged with damaging three cars.

One incident on March 18 saw him damage a Skoda Octavia to the value of £60, whereas the other was of a Peugeot 5008 to the value of of £265. He also damaged a Toyota Yaris.

All three of these incidents were seen as Iles "intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged".

Iles, who gave his address to the court as the probation office in Victoria Street, also admitted a Malicious Communications Act offence on 15 March 2022.

These social media messages were said to convey a threat for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety to the recipient, or to any other person to whom he intended that it or its contents or nature should be communicated.

Having initially entered a mix of pleas, he returned to Swindon Magistrates' Court on 30 May and changed his pleas to guilty.

Magistrates also sentenced him for three other offences he admitted earlier this year.

Iles admitted damaging a window and door belongig to a woman on November 8, as well as using violence to secure entry to a property on Holbein Close.

The justices imposed a two-year community order. As part of this, he was ordered to abstain from consuming any alcohol for 120 days.

Iles must also go through treatment for drug dependency by or under the direction of Probation for 9 months.

He must also completed 30 rehabilitation activity days.

Iles was given eight points on his driving licener for driving without insurance, and ordered to pay a total of £355 in compensation to the three car owners.

He was also banned from going to an address in Twickenham Close under a one-year restraining order.
