The £150 council tax rebate has been paid to more than 50,000 people in Swindon so far - but there are still some eligible households who have not yet received their payments.

Swindon Borough Council has revealed that payments could not be made into some residents' bank accounts.

But the council wants to reassure those Swindon residents expecting the £150 government payment that they will receive the sum in the form of vouchers.

Vouchers will be issued by the Post Office in the post in batches of 5,000 a week.

It is planned that 30,000 voucheers will be sent out throughout  June and July. People can redeem the vouchers at a local Post Office branch.

In response to the cost of living crisis, the government announced earlier this year that council tax payers in bands A to D would receive a £150 payment to help with energy bills.

A council spokesman said: "The vouchers are being issued in a random order so please do not worry if your relative or neighbour has received theirs.

"We ask residents to remain patient and not to contact us until all the vouchers have been issued.

"We will not call any residents to ask for their details over the phone.

"If someone rings you for this purpose, do not give your details to them."

Councils across the country have to pay the money to those who are eligible by September 30 this year.
