A community event promises free fun for all the family in Swindon over the bank holiday weekend.

South Swindon Parish Council, the Nepalese Association of Wiltshire and Nationwide Building Society are hosting an event for people of all ages at Buckhurst Field on Saturday, August 27  between 10am and 3pm.

There will be a variety of stalls from various organisations and local groups. Face painting will be on offer from Face’s with Kelly and Fantasyface4u. There will also be other entertainers in the form of the Swindon Stilt Walkers and Mad Pete.

Assisting the parish council with the running of this event is the Nepalese Association of Wiltshire - a community group with the aim of uniting the Nepalese community in and around Swindon. They will be providing food and entertainment on the day.

Nationwide is also a main sponsor of the event. The building society is behind a plan to build 239 eco-friendly, community-focused homes for the Oakfield development on Marlowe Avenue. A show home is due to open in autumn this year.

ATBShop will be attending the Buckhurst Skate Park between 11am and 2pm to host a free skateboarding and scooter workshop with displays, games and competitions.

Circus Sensible will be putting on a circus skills workshop and shows throughout the day, including juggling with balls and scarves, Chinese diabolo, beginner stilts, plate spinning and lots more.

Hand to Mouth Theatre will be at the event delivering unique puppet theatre performances. The puppet theatre company has been delighting audiences with their witty and whimsical puppet performances at festivals for more than 40 years.

SNDogs will be hosting a dog show with the chance to win some prizes.

There will also be a DJ and other live music throughout the day. Bouncy castles and other inflatables will be provided by Bouncy R Us.

Wiltshire Police, St John’s Ambulance and Wiltshire and Dorset Fire Service will also be attending.

South Swindon Parish Council's Dave Griffiths said: “This event is a chance for local families to come along and have an enjoyable day, for free."
