A police chase saw officers speeding through Wiltshire following an alleged car theft yesterday afternoon.

A Ford Ranger was reported stolen from a property in Poulshot, near Devizes.

The stolen vehicle was then abandoned in Pewsham and police have seized it.

Afterwards, officers identified a suspect vehicle, a transit van, which they believed to be linked to the crime.

Police cars were seen chasing the transit van through Amesbury town centre at around 4.12pm on Monday, August 1.

The suspect transit van failed to stop for police in the Amesbury area (first sighted in Countess Road) and there was a short pursuit around Amesbury.

The people in the van then stopped on the Packway (Durrington) and decamped on foot, running away from the vehicle.

No arrests have been made but the owner has been informed of the seized car.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "Yesterday afternoon (01/08) we received a report of a vehicle being stolen from a property in Poulshot.

“A short time later officers identified a suspect vehicle in the Amesbury area, followed it, and then located the stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle has been seized and the owner informed.

“At this stage no arrests have been made.”
