A new landlord will be taking over a popular Swindon pub next week.

Current landlords of The Check Inn Luke Monday and Annie Macefield announced that they have been "beckoned to another pub" in Swansea and will be leaving on Monday.

The Wroughton boozer has had a turbulent three years, opening and closing under a number of landlords.

They moved from Aberystwyth with their dog Maddie to reopen the Swindon pub in April and praised the “fantastic” community spirit they saw when they took on the establishment.

Annie shared that the last few months have been "some of the best of [their] lives" and punters applauded the pair for the work they have done with the establishment.

Luke and Annie specialise in fixing up pubs and work for a holding company. The Woodland View pub will be closed on Monday so they have a chance to pack but will be open this weekend.

In a post, Annie wrote: "Myself, Luke and Maddie are being beckoned to another pub.

"The last few months here at The Check Inn have been some of the best of our lives and we would like to thank you all for supporting us.

"We will always have very fond memories of The Check Inn and wish all the best to Peter who will be taking over from us next week.

"The pub will be closed on Monday to allow us a chance to pack however we are open as usual this weekend.

"Again we want to say a massive thank you to all of you who have come and supported us these last few months.

"So long and thanks for all the beer."

Fuller’s owns the building but the pub has changed to a free-of-tie lease which meant the pair shopped around for different beers and ales.

The couple decided to bring in beers supplied by Broadtown Brewery, Hop Kettle Brewery and Ramsbury Brewery and Distillery to support the local economy.

The Check Inn's freehold is currently advertised under the 'pubs for sale' section of the Fleurets website.

Grateful customers thanked Luke and Annie for their work and wished them the best for the future.

"It has been nice to see some life back in The Check Inn," one woman said.

Another added: "Annie and Luke have been amazing and it's so sad they are moving on."

"That is such a shame. It won't be the same without you both," one man commented.
