A SWINDON councillor praised the restoration of Coate Water's historic diving board - which took less time and cost less money than expected to complete.
The local authority's contractors finished the refurb in nine weeks rather than 12 and it has come in 12 per cent under budget. It had been expected to cost between £100,000 and £120,000.
The work included a full environmental clean and the removal of the lower level walls, along with minor repairs to the concrete structure and the installation of security grilles to prevent access to the upper levels.
The diving board itself has been repainted and the flag pole which sits atop the listed structure has been replaced.
More improvements in the park are underway. A new Garden of Reflection has been created at the lakeside and a new fully-accessible play area is in the pipeline.
Councillor Matty Courtliff is the cabinet member for heritage, leisure and town centre experience.
He said: "I'm really pleased we've managed to restore this historic asset at no cost to the council, thanks to developer contributions.
"This is just the start of the works at Coate and I'm looking forward to the next exciting project - building the brand new, flagship, fully accessible play park."
