A motorcyclist crashed his machine into the back of a Volkswagen Golf after drinking too much alcohol.

Clifford Reynolds, 60, of Haven Close, Stratton St Margaret, was riding his Harley Davidson when he hit the car on Dorcan Way on July 14.

When police were called to the scene just after 5:30pm, they discovered that Reynolds was over the drink-drive limit and he was arrested.

He was charged with driving while over the alcohol limit and appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates Court, where he pleaded guilty and was disqualified from driving for 20 months with a fine of £200.

He was also ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and an £80 contribution towards victim services.

PC Luke Hobbs, of the roads policing unit, said: “Consuming alcohol before driving or riding a motorcycle will seriously impact on your ability to stay safe on the roads.

“You are putting yourself and other road users at risk - it is extremely fortunate that nobody was injured during this collision.”
