FOUR people have been arrested following an alleged theft at a Sports Direct shop in Warminster.

The individuals, aged 13, 15, 17 and 34, were arrested after a report of bulk shoplifting of goods worth more than £800 at the Sports Direct store on the High Street at around 10.25am this morning (10/08).

Officers were altered to the ongoing incident at Sports Direct by Warminster CCTV via their Shop Watch radios that there was a high value theft in progress.

Warminster CCTV volunteers were able to give police a description of the vehicle that was being used for the thieves get-away.

A police officer in an unmarked vehicle spotted the vehicle heading out of Warminster on A36 towards Beckington and was able to follow it.

The officer directed colleagues from the Force’s Specialist Operations Unit to stop the vehicle in North Bradley. Officers then seized a number of items from the vehicle.

Two occupants of the vehicle made off from officers and, after a short chase on foot, one was located and the other was located shortly after, along with two women.

All four were arrested for theft and taken to Melksham Police Station, where they are likely to be questioned this evening.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “This was great work by officers who were able to identify, locate and track the getaway vehicle using CCTV footage.”

“These were very successful arrests by officers across our whole Community Policing Team; we are very grateful of the swift actions from Warminster CCTV by alerting us of the theft.

“We would also like to thank members of public that were involved in assisting our officers with the location of the outstanding suspect.”

Anyone with information on the incident should call Wiltshire Police on 101 and quote log number 101 of today.
