Malmesbury Carnival is back with a full month-long line up of events for the first time in three years.

The Covid pandemic meant a virtual carnival in 2020 and last year there was no procession.

But this August features a whole host of events, from the scarecrow trail that runs until the 26th, tours, tastings, workshops, music and a fun fair.

There's a family fun day on August 13 from 2pm to 6pm at the Malmesbury Victoria FC ground, a quiz night at the Wesleyan Hall on August on August 18 and a Soirée du Jazz on the 20th.

Always popular Petticoat Lane is in the High Street on August 21 between 10am and 3pm. There's a Carnival Arts workshop on the weekend of August 27 and 28 where people can make their procession costumes.

Music in the abbey cloisters follows on August 29 and Danters Fun Far sets up on September 1.

The finale comes on the weekend of September 3, when the Flying Monk 10 starts the proceedings at 9am.

Then at 6pm the procession sets off and wends its way through the town centre, watched by crowds.

Organised by a committee of volunteers, it has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for local good causes and charities in the years since it started more than a century ago.
