Melksham Town Council was forced to cancel the Active Roadshow for children in the King George V Playing Fields yesterday because of the current heatwave.
In a post on its Facebook page, the council apologised to parents for the short-notice.
It said: "The decision was taken after discussion with Active Trowbridge, who had cancelled all similar local events following Government advice.
"In short, children are more at risk of heat-related issues because their thermoregulation is less developed than adults.
"Add in the hot rubber of the inflatables and the scheduled time of the event (midday sun), MTC took the tough decision to follow this advice and prioritise children's safety.
"We hope an additional day can be arranged in more clement weather - and if arranged, we will publicise appropriately."
The Active Roadshow activities in King George V Park were scheduled to take place every Thursday for five weeks during the summer holiday beginning on July 28.
The free sessions are on offer to children of all ages from 11am to 2pm with games, inflatables, and rounders being organised to entertain them.
However, the park's Splashpad is still open for families to use.
