THOUSANDS of homes were left high and dry after a water leak cut supplies.
Residents in West End and parts of Southampton were without water for most of Sunday after a water pipe burst in Allington Lane.
Many said they were unable to drink, shower, or cook during a day that saw temperatures soar to 31C.
And according to Southern Water, around 8,000 properties could have been affected by the loss of water.
'Not a drip of water'
Jeff Harvey, 76, of Upmill Close, West End, said: “We’ve been without water since 8.30am this (Sunday) morning.
"I put the tap on and there was nothing there.
"Everything has been affected.
"Not a drip of water is coming out the tap, you can’t do anything.”
Concerns were raised by mother-of-two Jennifer White.

The 41-year-old of Carpathia Close, Southampton, said: “I have two young children with additional needs. I am going to have to go to the shop. You can’t flush the toilet.”
Allington Lane was closed to motorists as Southern Water worked to fix the problem.
The supplier announced that around 150 homes in Allington Lane would be without water while they fixed the leak.
'No water at all'
The leak also affected businesses and attractions.
Itchen Valley Country Park in Allington Lane closed its café and toilets while The Two Brothers pub in Chartwell Green closed to customers for a number of hours.
A Southern Water spokesperson said: “We are sorry for the inconvenience this is causing customers and are working to return all homes to supply as quickly as possible.
"We understand that at a time when we are asking customers to use their water wisely during Temporary Use Bans, leaks are even more of a focus.”
One Allington Lane resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I have no water at all, not even a trickle since this morning.
“I have a dog so I am concerned about her as she drinks fresh water.”
