ACTORS from Highworth will recreate the story of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection in a special event tomorrow.
The Highworth Passion will tell the Easter story and use the town's Market Square and nearby streets as the backdrop for the drama.
The production, which has been planned for more than 18 months, will involve more than 200 people in a variety of roles.
As well as actors there will be musicians, camera technicians and support staff.
The event will be filmed and broadcast around the square so that everyone can follow the performance.
The show is a Highworth version of the BBC TV dramatisations of Christian stories which have used modern pop songs to tell religious stories.
Highworth Community Church youth worker Naomi Ray-Mathur said the organisers had been thrilled at the number of people eager to get involved.
She said: "Organisationally this has been a huge job.
"But people from all over have been really keen to take part and the excitement is really building.
"A lot of businesses in the town are planning to stay open later than usual and lots of others have really come on board and supported what we're trying to do.
"I really don't think that the Swindon area will have seen anything like this before."
People from the church, Highworth Songsters and Highworth Silver Band will be taking part in the performance.
And schoolchildren from Highworth will be singing before the main performance.
To give the story a modern flavour it will be illustrated with the music of Queen, U2, Oasis, the Kaiser Chiefs, Joy Division and Coldplay.
The event begins at 7pm and the play itself gets under way at 8pm.
It will finish with a firework display.
