In the early hours of the morning a man was taken to hospital after he was assaulted in Swindon, leaving him with facial injuries.

Officers from Wiltshire Police were called to a disorder in the High Street, Old Town, shortly after 4am.

They were responding to a disorder, during which a man in his 20s sustained injuries to his face, for which he received treatment at Great Western Hospital.

Police carried out enquiries at the scene and a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of GBH. He is currently in custody at Gablecross for further questioning.

A cordon was put in place in the area immediately after the incident while further enquiries were carried out. This has now been lifted.

Insp Steve Love said: “We’d urge anyone who witnessed the disorder who has not already spoken to officers, to get in touch. Officers are continuing with their enquiries this morning, including gathering any available CCTV footage.”
