A local school team won the EFL Utilita Kids Cup last week for the first time since 1989.

Holy Family boys football team, comprised of children from Year Six, battled to the grand final and won the competition with a scintillating display in the final on Thursday, November 17.

The Swindon side claimed a famous 4-1 victory against local rivals Goddard Park School, which just happens to be Holy Family Catholic and Primary School’s neighbouring school.

Mason, 10, scored a wonderful hat-trick in the final and goalkeeper Jack saved a penalty in the quarter-final shootout, taking the team to the semi-finals.

The competition featured 7-a-side matches and the whole squad played their part in securing a notable win at Foundation Park.

“The whole group played well played really well and worked well together as a team,” remarked coach Carly Coates, 35.

This is both Carly’s first coaching job and her first trophy win but she also took the time to commend the opposition.

“Goddard Park were a very nice group of boys on the other team,” she said.

It seems the only way is up for the team currently, with the Holy Family boys team topping their respective league table and reaching the next round of the FA Primary School Cup.

“I am extremely proud of our football team for representing our school and showing the school values on the football pitch too,” said headteacher Nadia Massop, 36.

The boys will now represent their town in a South of England 6-a-side tournament, wearing Swindon Town kit.
