Oasis centre: Shocking state of leisure centre revealed in photos

Local campaign group Save Oasis Swindon did a New Year's survey of the outside of the closed building and grounds, which are the responsibility of current landlords SevenCapital.

It posted the results on Twitter, revealing damage to parts of the building, growing potholes in the car park and rubbish piling up around the back.

Alongside these images, a spokesperson for the organisation said: "We did our first voluntary check around the site for 2023.

"We could see people playing with R/C vehicles on the BMX Track and scooters in the skate area. The Oasis is clearly a site that people still want to use, even if impromptu. 

"Kids are bored in Swindon without the Oasis and the site has not been maintained. There's flytipping, potholes, and overgrown plants as well as dumped trollies of rubbish still mounting up around the back."

These posts prompted the sportswoman and olympian turned television host Sharron Davies MBE to comment on the state of the Grade II listed structure, as well as offer some advice on how to get it reopened

She said: "Shame to see this. Check out @ParagonBuild as a viable, quick, cheaper, carbon-friendly to run option."
