The owners of Blunsdon Caravan Park in North Swindon have failed in their fifth attempt to get approval from the council for extra static caravan homes on their site.

Blunsdon Abbey Limited put in an application for that number of vans to be sited anywhere on the site, most of which is a green field. It has just been turned down.

This application follows two by Park Homes Life in 2021 for essentially the same permission. Both were turned down by Swindon Borough Council planners and appeals were refused by government-appointed planning inspectors.

The issue is where the caravan can be sited.

The applicant says permission was granted in 1952 for no more than 100 caravans on the land, and over time that permission was extended to 112 caravans and there no conditions placed about where the caravans could be sites and the permission was granted for the entire site.

Swindon Borough Council planners said: ”There is currently no development of the land to the south of Landor Road and no approved plan suggests any permission exists for land south of those currently on the site.

"It is reasonable to conclude on the basis of the manner the site has been developed that only the northern portion of the site has planning permission for the siting of caravans.”
