An Old Town bar has been reimagined as a new nightlife venue which has opened this weekend.

For the last few weeks, the Brass Monkey on Wood Street, Old Town, has been transformed into something new, Woodys Bar.

After putting the finishing touches to the refurbishment and rebranding, the new bar is held its grand opening on Friday, February 10.

The bar’s general manager, Daniel Oliver, 30, who was also the general manager of the Brass Monkey before it, has talked about his excitement at relaunching the venue as something different, especially after seeing it through the Covid pandemic and lockdowns.

“We felt that we needed a new look and came up with the concept,” he said.

“Woodys will offer something that currently isn't offered in Swindon. The constant party anthems giving a positive and fun atmosphere all weekend long!”

The Brass Monkey Facebook page has been promoting the re-opening of the Wood Street venue for the last few days with several posts highlighting the retro throw-back aims.

One said: “Get on your leg warmers and break out the neon! We are taking you back to the 80's.”

Another added: “Spice girls are playing, we're rocking the double denim. We are returning to the 90's this weekend.”

And another post, promising 70s hit said: “Don the flares, dig out the platforms because this weekend we are bringing the groove.

“Join us for a fantastic lineup this weekend, playing all the true throwbacks!”

It also promises ‘free entry all night, 2-4-1 cocktails’ and it will be ‘open til 3am.’

The refurbishment began on January 20 when the establishment posted onto its social media an announcement that changes were coming.

It said: “Goodbye Brass Monkey it’s been fun! Hello.. Something new!”

The total revamp of the Brass Monkey to Woodys then took place over the following three weeks, with staff still scrambling to get the venue ready in time for the grand opening the day before, on Thursday.

Daniel added: “The renovation has cost £150k with changes throughout the full venue and garden.

“Excited to be reopening with a new concept for Swindon, I believe we're in for some exciting times ahead.”
