Drugs, weapons and illegal e-bikes were among the contraband seized by a neighbourhood policing team during a routine bike patrol.

Officers from the Stratton Central Swindon North and West Swindon neighbourhood policing team conducted a visible patrol of the Moredon, Pinehurst and Penhill communities.

In an update on what the patrol turned up posted on the team's Facebook page, a spokesperson for the police said on Tuesday: "A sample of today's patrol around Moredon Pinehurst and Penhill involved two stop and searches in which some cannabis and a push knife was seized.

"It also involved a short bike chase which ended with an illegally modified electric bike being seized."

Police said that the bike seized had an electric throttle that made it capable of reaching speeds of approximately 30mph, but that it was notably in a very poor condition and had no front breaks.

"These bikes are unsafe and illegal," the spokesperson added.

"Your local officers are regularly out on bike patrols around the community so that we can be accessible to speak to. We can also cover more areas which our patrol cars cannot reach so that criminals have nowhere to hide."
