A meeting which could see a pub linked to organised crime shut down has been moved.

Swindon Borough Council's licensing panel had been due to meet on Friday to consider a Wiltshire Police request to review the licence held by Jane Jeapes at the Crumpled Horn pub in Eldene.

It comes after a group of men entered the building at 8.30pm on Friday, March 10, carrying machetes.

Wiltshire Police allege it has become a hub for organised crime.

The meeting, at the Civic Offices in Euclid Street, has now been put back to Monday, March 27.

The panel will be able to revoke the licence held by Ms Jeapes or let it continue.

The pub was shut last week by magistrates after police applied for the closure order just days after the alleged attempted machete attack by members of one gang who were intending harm to another, according to the submission to the court which has been made available to councillors.

In that submission, officers say the pub was something of a headquarters for gangs involved in the illegal sale of drugs, and that there was intelligence to say deals were often openly carried out in the pub, and drug couriers used the pub as a place to rest before heading out to conduct deals on electric scooters and cycles.

The three-councillor panel will meet at 10am on Monday.
