A burglar left empty-handed after they were disturbed in the act.

Officers and a police dog were called to a property in Upper Stratton at 3am on Thursday morning (March 23) after a homeowner saw a person with a torchlight in the hallway of her house.

The person is then alleged to have run off before they could steal anything when they were disturbed in the company of a second person.

Detectives investigating the incident have now issued an appeal to see if anyone nearby may have noticed anything suspicious before, during or after the incident took place.

"Officers attended the scene along with a police dog but unfortunately nobody was located. Enquiries remain ongoing," the spokesperson said.

"We’d like to hear from anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity around the area at approximately 3am on March 23."

Anyone who might be able to help the police with their enquiries should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54230030994.
