CONCERNED locals who thought they had heard gunshots when Wiltshire Police raided a Swindon home will be relieved to find out they were not.

On Friday evening, officers raided a property on Bath Road, Old Town, as part of a search for a wanted man.

After blocking off the road to pedestrians armed police surrounded the home and searched it.

But in one moment captured on video by a neighbour, several loud bangs can be heard and flashes of light corresponding to the bangs could be seen through some trees blocking a view to the side of the home.

Some believed these were gunshots, but a spokesman for Wiltshire Police has confirmed that while firearms were present during the incident, none were discharged.

Instead the loud bangs and flashing light were part of 'normal practice tactics'.

"Our officers attended Bath Road and based on the intelligence we had, used normal practice tactics," the spokesman said.

"No firearms were discharged."

Bath Road in Old Town was shut for a number of hours while this incident took place, but in an update provided on Saturday police revealed that there had been no arrests and their enquiries were ongoing.
