The results are in - meet the winner of the Adver's competition to find Swindon's Perfect Pet.

We received dozens of entries from proud owners who hoped that their animal companion could be crowned as the best in town.

After whittling these down to a shortlist of 10, it fell to readers to vote for their favourite finalist by sending in coupons printed in the paper last month.

The owners of each had the chance to promote their pooch in a last ditch pitch to persuade people why they should win.

Now the votes have been tallied up and the winner can be declared.

Congraulations to Francesca Sutton's nine-month-old Labrador-Springer Spaniel cross Macey!

When Francesca feels upset and on the verge of a panic attack, Macey instinctively lies across her chest until she calms down.

This heartwarming tale resonated with readers, who got in touch with the Purton woman to ask how they could teach their own dog to do the same.

Francesca said: "I got Macey just after my father died and I was really struggling with my grief. Every time I cried seemed to lead to a panic attack.

"I didn't teach Macey anything, she just chose to lay on me when a panic attack started and not move until it stopped, and now she's used to doing that.

"It's like she senses it coming on and wants to help, she's lovely.

"She is best friends with my one-and-a-half-year-old daughter - their videos went viral on TikTok. Macey is always on the run, following her around and playing.

"I feel completely safe with her, she's an absolute angel and a bit like a babysitter. I fell in love with Macey straight away as soon as I saw her, she has come at just the right time when we needed her."

Francesca added: "I could not believe we'd won, I'm so happy and grateful.

"Macey got a big cuddle, a long walk around Lydiard Park, and had steak and vegetables for dinner, so she had a great day. I can't wait to spoil her more."

Cocker Spaniel Molly belonging to Louise Lake from Upper Stratton came second in the competition, while Border Collie-Labrador cross Bari, owned by Harley Clements from Stratton, came third.
