Customers with questions or needing help at the McArthur Glen designer outlet in Rodbourne should find it a bit easier now an upgrade has been approved.
The shopping centre’s application to change the customer services desk at the West Entrance to the centre has been approved.
The centre says the desk now, set in a recess, is uninviting and not easy to spot.
Its application said: “The graphical approach is bland and lacks interest. The tone of voice gets lost. It is unclear this is the Customer Service area.
The application showed a picture of the desk, under a wall covered in moss effect and said: “It is unclear that this is Customer Service area and the services available.
"The addition of the moss wall adds a sense of well-being, but the service gets lost. The existing desk acts as a barrier, the finishes lack interest and are unwelcoming.”
Instead, the centre has permission to use a mixture of dark and lighter woods, remove the moss effect and move in easy chairs and screens to make the service area more welcoming and obvious.
The application said: “The new proposal features timber effect tiled flooring with brass trim used elsewhere within the centre refurbishment.
"The material palette unifies the scheme with the East Mall and provides an opportunity to showcase the heritage of the building.”
