A MAN armed with a Samurai sword stormed a Walcot woman's house.

The man burst into her home, in Darnley Close, Walcot, carrying the 2ft-long blade on Wednesday night.

The woman's boyfriend, Jason Smith, 28, fought the man out of their home and the pair then scuffled in the street.

As she watched in horror, the attacker slashed Jason's hand as he tried to keep the blade at bay.

"He just came straight in my house, with a big sword," she said.

"I was sitting on my bed waiting for the hot water to heat up so I could have a bath.

"Jason had come over to visit, then I heard someone come in the front door.

"He just walked in with the sword. I think he had some problem with Jason.

"Jason was trying to push him back until he got him out. The guy put the plastic cover of the sword in the front door so it wouldn't shut.

"Jason got him out but then Jason went out there. I think maybe there was something going on between them.

"I didn't know the other guy, he was about 22 or 25. I think maybe he thought Jason still lived here.

"Jason went outside after him. They were shouting at each other in the street. The other guy was waving the sword around. Jason got cut across his hand trying to fight him off.

"Jason bit his ear, but I don't know if that was just to fight him off. You'll do pretty much anything to save yourself though."

When police arrived at the scene both Jason and the second man were arrested.

Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

Yesterday Jason had surgery at Great Western Hospital on the cut across the palm of his hand. He was allowed home late last night.

"I ran out and was screaming at them to stop," said his girlfriend.

"Then I ran to a friend's house and got her to phone the police. They were there really quickly.

"When the police had him lying on the ground in handcuffs. I was shouting at him how dare you come in my house with a knife'.

"The police told me I couldn't go back and stay there the night. They said it was a crime scene and they had to take fingerprints and footprints from his trainers and things because he came into the house."

Two men were arrested in connection with the incident.

Det Con Gareth Kitchener, from Swindon CID, said: "Police attended a report of a disturbance involving a person armed with a Samurai sword.

"Two men in their 20s have been arrested for assault in relation this incident and a sword recovered.

"Both detained men have subsequently received treatment for their injuries at the Great Western Hospital.

"The two people were known to each other and there was a dispute between these people.

"One man had to have for surgery to an injury he received to his hand. The other was less seriously hurt.

"We were alerted to the disturbance by concerned neighbours who heard the incident."

The neighbour who called the police, but did not want to be named for fear of reprisals said: "There were a few threats flying about, then they were fighting in the street. Then one of them was lying in the road screaming for help."
