A SCHOOL pond is to be rejuvenated, thanks to a generous insurance company.

Legal and General handed over a cheque for £5,000 to Peatmoor Community Primary School towards the renovation of its pond and environmental garden.

The school has been raising money for almost four months and Paul Watermeyer, the Year 6 teacher, and special projects co-ordinator, said the latest donation had considerably swelled the fundraising pot.

He said: "The money will be specifically for the pond.

"It is in a sorry state. The concrete base is cracked and needs rebuilding."

Legal and General got involved after Mr Watermeyer approached them.

He said: "We contacted them and told them what we were doing and they said they were interested.

"They went away and had meetings with bosses and Samantha Badminton told us they agreed to give us £5,000."

The project will cost about £8,000 and the school is well on its way, with £7,000 so far.

Mr Watermeyer said: "We will be rebuilding the pond and have already planted some trees.

"We want the pond to be child- friendly and are also hoping to install an underwater camera.

"The aim is to directly link the pond to the curriculum for science and art but also for projects for the Eco Club."Legal and General has not only offered money, the company has also pledged some man hours to the cause.

The school recently held a fundraiser, which saw various local businesses helping out.

Hairdressers visited the school as well as staff from the Bombay Indian restaurant, who laid on food for the day.
