Mystery surrounds the future of a Swindon bar that has been closed for weeks.

Woodys, on Wood Street, was rebranded and refurbished earlier this year, opening in February.

Then-manager Daniel Oliver spoke about his excitement of the new era.

But just nine months later, a sign on the door of the former Brass Monkey bar reveals the nightlife venue is closed for "urgent maintenance", adding: "We look forward to seeing you again soon."

But revellers who often frequent the area have told the Adver it has been like this for "at least two months" and they have seen "no signs of life in the building at all".

This newspaper has made an attempt to contact the bar, but the number listed on its Facebook page no longer appears to be in use.

Attempts have also been made to contact Mr Oliver to see if he can shed some light on its future, but he has not responded and social media shows he left the bar in September.

Meanwhile, the last post that was made on either the Woodys Facebook or Instagram page was on August 23 - advertising a Bank Holiday Sunday 'back to the noughties' event.

Inside the lights are on, but all of the stools/seating has been placed on tables, and there are boxes and other things left on the bar and other places.

"We tried to go there on October 15 and I remember thinking to myself 'oh no, Woodys is closed'," a member of the public, who did not wish to be named, said.

"Then we were back on Wood Street recently and the sign was still there and nothing seems to have happened inside. So I'm pretty sure they've been closed for quite some time now."

The total revamp of the Brass Monkey to Woodys then took place over three weeks, with staff still scrambling to get the venue ready in time for the grand opening on Friday, February 10

The renovation was said to have cost £150,000 with changes throughout the full venue and garden.
