EASTROP Infant School is outstanding - officially.

Education inspectors from Ofsted delivered their glowing verdict on the school this week.

And they handed it the highest praise they could.

After reading the report headteacher Sue Marshall said: "We are absolutely thrilled."

Eastrop is not the only school receiving praise from Ofsted.

Uffington Primary School was also on the receiving end of an outstanding assessment grade after its inspection.

The Highworth school received a good assessment grade on its last inspection and Mrs Marshall said stepping up to outstanding came from continuing hard work.

She said: "We have always been graded as a good school and now we're happy to finally be classed as outstanding."

Ofsted inspectors gather evidence through lesson observations, assessment data, pupils' work, and discussions with the headteacher, governing bodies, staff, parents and pupils.

And in the case of Eastrop School, particular attention was paid to how well pupils use literacy and numeracy skills, standards in subjects and the quality of academic guidance.

Mrs Marshall says it is the personal touch that makes the difference.

She said: "We aim to treat all the children as individuals and we feel it is important to make learning exciting and fun.

"In the report it quoted a parent saying all staff are dedicated to the individual child on a personal level and as a learner.' So that was lovely to hear.

"We are delighted that the report recognises the hard work of all staff and everyone involved and that children enjoy learning creatively.

"I would really like to emphasise that it has been a team effort. I am really proud of everyone."

Uffington School was particularly praised for pupil behaviour, enjoyment and involvement and teaching standards, as well as the schools links with the community.

All pupils received a letter from the inspector, Charalambos Loizou, telling them: "You go to a good school. You work very hard with your teachers."

Headteacher Liz Robertson said: "We are delighted that the inspection has acknowledged the high standards in our school.

"It is particularly good to have confirmation that children benefit from the exciting and enriching curriculum that the staff work hard to provide. The report celebrates the wonderful team effort."
