Four people were arrested after a group of people armed with weapons saw a police helicopter called out.

The group were involved in a disorder on Chickerall Road shortly after 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called to the scene with the support of the National Police Air Service.

Residents reported seeing the police helicopter hover over the area for hours.

An address in Buckhurst Crescent was later searched, and officers seized Class A drugs, cash and weapons.

Four males were arrested for offences including affray and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Included in the arrests were a 16-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy, a 19-year-old and a 42-year-old man.

All four suspects currently remain in custody at Gablecross for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Joe Saunders said: “This incident happened at 4pm in the afternoon and was witnessed by members of the public.

“This is totally unacceptable behaviour and in line with the Chief Constable’s Force Priorities, we are absolutely committed to creating safer public spaces within our communities.

“We will not tolerate violent behaviour of this kind which causes others to feel intimidated or scared in their own neighbourhood.”

Police say that anyone with information should call them on 101 and quote crime reference number 54240003129.
