A new use may have been found for an historic building in Royal Wootton Bassett.
Hillier Funeral Service has exchanged contracts on Lime Kiln House with the aim of opening a fourth funeral home on the site if a newly-submitted application asking for planning permission to do so is approved.
The grand Grade II-listed building used to be a radio studio for Great Western Railway.
A spokesperson for the funeral directors said: “It is in need of some tender love and care and we hope to restore it in the same way as Kingshill House.
“We are already serving families in this area and this funeral home will act as an extension to our care.
“If successful with our planning application, we will have comfortable arrangement rooms, peaceful visitation rooms and plenty of on-site parking.”
The family-run is one of the oldest businesses in Swindon and has been offering compassionate funeral care to people in the area since 1923.
The head office is based in Kingshill House at the top of Kingshill Road, while The Broadway on Whitworth Road includes a second office and chapel and further chapels and a third office can be found on Lechlade Road in Highworth.
