A police probe after two people were spotted running from a burning car near a Swindon school has not yet led to any arrests.
A burning red Vauxhall was attended by the fire service around 6pm on July 24 close to Great Western Academy on William Morris Way.
Firefighters were surrounded by smoke as they tackled the fire, from which an eyewitness saw two people running.
The eyewitness said: “I saw two people running down the road. But they did not look dressed for running.
“And then I went round the corner and saw the red Vauxhall on fire. The car was just starting to pop as the fire brigade arrived. I was trying to stop people from going closer.
“It did start to go up. I was concerned the fuel tank was going to go.”
The next day Wiltshire Police confirmed this sighting and put out an appeal for witnesses - but no arrests have yet been made.
A spokesperson said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a car fire on William Morris Way, Swindon, just after 6pm last night (24/07).
“Two people were reported to have been seen running away from the scene.
