Drivers around Wiltshire have reportedly been targeted by “parking scam” text messages claiming to be from the council.
Multiple people have reported receiving messages claiming to be from both Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council.
Some of these messages warn the recipient that they have been hit with a parking fine and must pay within 28 days, to avoid a larger punishment, by clicking an attached link.
We've received reports of text messages claiming to be from the Council, asking residents to pay a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). These messages include our phone number but with an unfamiliar prefix and a "TI" PCN number.

Swindon Borough Council says the messages include its phone number but with an “unfamiliar prefix” and a “TI” PCN number.
But both councils have warned residents that they will never contact drivers by text if they have been issued with a penalty charge notice.
Anyone who receives a text like this has been urged to ignore it and not provide any personal information.

A Swindon Borough Council spokesperson said: “Please be aware Swindon Borough Council does not send text messages requesting payment for PCNs.
“If you receive such a message, do not respond or provide any personal information.
“For any questions or to verify your PCN, please contact us directly by calling 01793 445500.”
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Council added: “We're aware of residents receiving text messages saying they need to pay a parking fine.
“This is a scam. If you get a parking fine, we don't contact you by text.”
