Swindon school nurse Julie Conlen’s quick-thinking and professional skills meant that she was able to help save the life of a student at school in April this year.
Julie responded to the medical emergency and administered CPR to a youngster from a school in Swindon, who was then taken to hospital and made a full recovery.
Julie was a finalist in the Children and Young Peoples Award, part of the NHS England South West Community & Primary Care Nursing Awards, and while she did not win that award, she was surprised and delighted to win the Judges’ Choice Award.
Julie said: “I’m honoured to have received the Judges' Choice Award at the NHS England South West Community & Primary Care Nursing Awards.

“This recognition was a result of a collaborative effort between myself and the dedicated school staff, and I am proud to have contributed to managing the medical emergency.
“School nurses have built strong partnerships across many Swindon schools, and this award highlights the strength and importance of these relationships.”
Swindon Borough Council leader Councillor Jim Robbins said: “What Julie did is nothing short of amazing.
“I’m so proud to have Julie and so many other staff like her working in our schools and changing lives every single day."
