A reported “gas leak” has caused lengthy traffic delays on a Swindon road.
Emergency gas works reportedly started on Devizes Road in Old Town, near the junction with Newport Street and Croft Road, on Wednesday, September 25.
Two-way temporary traffic lights have been installed while Wales & West Utilities work on the street.
These roadworks caused significant delays on Wednesday, with long queues forming, and are due to continue until Tuesday, October 1.
Delays are expected in the meantime.
Swindon’s Buses is reporting that the works are due to a gas leak in the area, and warned passengers that their services would be delayed or altered on Wednesday evening as a result.
A spokesperson for the firm tweeted: “Due to emergency gas works along Devizes Road we are unable to serve the Devizes Road bus stops in both directions.
“The alternative stops are Prospect and Newport Street. Apologies for the inconvenience caused.”
In a later tweet, they added: “Due to a Gas Leak in Old Town, services are being delayed up to 40 minutes due to heavy traffic on Devizes Road.”
