A pub in Marlborough is set to get a “much needed” makeover after Wiltshire Council approved an application for its refurbishment.
The Castle and Ball is located along the high street and is a coaching inn dating back to the 1600s.
Greene King, the country's leading pub retailer in charge of over 1600 pubs, has now received planning permission to refurbish the venue.
According to the application, the work will “revitalise” the business’ commercial viability but “remains in keeping with the historic character and appearance of the building whilst facilitating much needed refurbishments”.\

The plans include a new dedicated entrance lobby with an adjacent canopy, a wheelchair ramp and improvements to the existing car park.
The additional features are designed to “improve universal accessibility” through the existing pub to create a more “inclusive and functional” environment for guests.
Also referenced within the application is Greene King’s “commitment to keep on improving the vitality and visual aesthetics of the listed building to be enjoyed by local residents”.
It concluded: “The design is reflective of the high-quality nature of the Greene King approach to their estate, and the proposals will form an attractive, bespoke, and inviting environment.”
Wiltshire Council informed Greene King of its decision to approve the work on Tuesday, September 24.
