Congestion on a Swindon motorway sliproad led to queues tailing back onto the main M4 carriageway during rush hour.
A slow-moving stream of vehicles on the left-hand lane of the Junction 15 exit sliproad approaching the roundabout to turn left onto the A419/Marlborough Road.
Turning left onto the A-road is also possible in the middle and right-hand lane but a motorist observed that these other two lanes were empty at around 8.45am today.
This meant that drivers leaving the motorway at this junction became stuck in a queue of around a mile which affected other travellers that were heading along lane one of the motorway's eastbound carriageway.
One driver told the Adver: "Traffic was tailed back for about a mile. It was frustrating because people weren't using all the lanes which was causing the tailbacks.
"It's unusual, there didn't seem to be any reason for it, which was odd, it made me late for work."
The congestion remained until around 9.30am, when it began to ease and the usual flow of traffic resumed.
Junction 16 of the M4, which connects to the other side of Swindon, was not affected by this traffic issue.
