The supermarket chain had controversial plans to build a new supermarket in Royal Wootton Basset, on land at Marsh Farm near Brinkworth Road, approved in 2023.
In late January 2025, work started at the fenced off site of the planned supermarket which appeared to be laying the foundations for the build.
While construction continues, Lidl has lodged an important application with Wiltshire Council to allow it to trade as planned once the project is completed.

The retailer has applied for a premises licence which would allow it to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises between the hours of 7am and 11pm seven days a week.
Wiltshire Council will be collecting feedback on this application until May 13 ahead of deciding whether to grant the licence or not.
Once the development is complete, the site will be home to Lidl, as well as a new car park and an adjacent 2.15-hectare country park.
The landscaping for this park must be completed before the supermarket can open its doors to customers.
