Netflix: Billie Piper joins Jenna Ortega in Wednesday season 2

Season two of the most viewed English-language Netflix series in history has been released - featuring Swindon's most famous actress.

Wednesday Season Two has been released on Netflix on Wednesday, August 6, and stars Swindon-born Billie Piper as she makes her first appearance in the TV show.

The Netflix series, featuring Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers, is a spin-off of The Addam's Family story, and follows Wednesday Addams as she navigates mystery and murder at the private school for outcasts, Nevermore Academy.

Its first season outperformed Stranger Things 4, as the highest-grossing Netflix series, drawing in 252.1 million views.

The new series, now available on Netflix, sees Billie Piper sporting a new ginger hairstyle as she stars as new character Isadora Capri.

The Swindon actress will star opposite big names such as Emma Myers (Image: Netflix) Piper, who was born in Swindon, attended Bradon Forest School in Purton until the age of 12, when she won a scholarship to the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London.

Her new character Isadora Capri has been described as "brilliant, intense and enigmatic", and her character bio reveals "she takes a special interest in Wednesday's musical gifts and becomes a mentor to fellow werewolf Enid Sinclair."

Billie Piper previously said she was thrilled to work with Tim Burton on Wednesday, describing the director as “really childlike energetically”.

Speaking to Radio Times, she said character Capri is a “really accomplished musician” with “an interesting past of her own”.

The actress told the magazine she was “quite overwhelmed” to be working with Burton after admiring him for so long, and loved watching his films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Frankenweenie with her children.

“I realised I was dealing with someone who’s really childlike energetically – open and engaging and fun.

“I love his energy. And that’s what it feels like: like you’re being painted into Tim Burton’s piece of art, because it’s a very specific composition a lot of the time, and it’s striking.”

Other big names joining Piper as new cast members on the show include Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future and Addams Family Values), Thandiwe Newton (Westworld) and Steve Buscemi (Monsters Inc)

Lady Gaga has even been confirmed as filming a cameo for the new episodes, which was described in interview by Jenna Ortega as "unbelievably cool."

The first four episodes of the eight-episode season are now available on Netflix UK, with the next four episodes expected to drop next month.
