A funeral home in Swindon has been listed as 'for sale' on RightMove, just days after the company announced a major change on the horizon.
The Co-operative Funeralcare, run by Central Co-op, has stood on Cricklade Road in Swindon for years, and has become a staple of the town's funeral services for generations of families.
Now, the site has been put up for sale for a guide price of £350,000.
A listing, made by Acuitus Limited on the selling site RightMove, describes the 388 square metre site as being open to "future development" and having "change of use potential," meaning it could be repurposed by a new business.
The funeral parlour, workshop, fire floor offices and rear garages are all included in the sale, and will be sold by auction on October 30, 2025.
"The property is situated in a predominantly residential neighbourhood, close to its junction with Liddington Street, offering ample frontage to the main arterial road, A4311," said a spokesperson for Acuitus Limited.
"The property is situated approximately two miles north of Swindon town centre."
The sale comes after Co-op's Midcounties food store which was also based on Cricklade Road was closed down and replaced by Londis in February 2024, after 110+ years in the town.
Now, the upcoming sale of the Central Co-op Funeralcare branch comes just days after Co-op central and Co-op Midcounties announced a "landmark change" could be on the cards.
Although shoppers might just know their local supermarket or funeralcare service as simply 'Co-op', the brand name is actually used to refer to two separate companies - Co-op central and Co-op Midcounties.
The two co-operative brands say they're having "advanced discussions" over a potential merger which would see them unite as one.

If the merger goes ahead, The Midcounties Co-operative - which operates across Swindon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire - and Central Co-op will create a new society with more than 500 food stores, 170 funeral homes, 70 travel agencies and almost 50 nurseries between them.
