Swindon man who threatened to 'smash' woman’s face jailed

Lee Mapstone, 25, turned up at the complainant’s house on October 6, 2025, threatening to smash her face and smash up her car, a court heard.

Mapstone, whose address given to the court is Hawksworth Way, Oasis Leisure Centre, was charged with two counts of criminal damage, and one count of stalking with fear of violence.

He plead guilty to all three charges, and was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on October 25.

He also plead not-guilty to a separate charge of putting a person in fear of violence by harassment, against another complainant.

This charge will lie on file, and was not included in the sentence.

Mr Mark Ashley, prosecuting, told the court that at the time of harassing the woman, he had been on bail conditions which forbade him from contacting her directly or indirectly.

But, on October 5, the complainant received a call from Mapstone, asking her to pick him up, the court heard.

The call was from a number she did not recognise. As soon as she realised who it was, she hung up the phone.

He continued to ring her throughout the rest of the night, around 70 times in total.

He was abusive in the calls, calling her “fat”, the court heard.

On October 6, the complainant received further messages from Mapstone between 4am and 4:30am, that became increasingly sinister, Mr Ashley told the court.

“I swear I am nearly at yours”, and “I will smash the window”, the messages read.

One of the criminal damage charges relates to when he did damage the window of her house.

Mr Matthew Scott, defending, said that Mapstone has “a very poor record, which speaks for itself.”

He said that Mapstone had had a difficult childhood – his father had frequently been in prison, and this resulted in him having a lot of responsibility “beyond his years”, taking on the role of “the man of the house”.

Mapstone also discovered he had ADHD at the age of 13, which has gone largely untreated.

Mr Scott also referenced a statement given to the court by Mapstone’s friend, which showed “another side to him”, describing him as “always being a loyal and good”.

“He is regretful and remorseful, and wants to apologise for everything he has done,” said Mr Scott.

Judge Townsend said that whilst he accepted these factors, Mapstone had taken part in “serious stalking” of the complainant, which was intended to cause the complainant “fear”.

He sentenced Mapstone to 12 months in prison, with a one-month concurrent sentence for each of the criminal damage offences.

He also imposed a restraining order, forbidding Mapstone from contacting either of the complainants, which will be in place for seven years.

After being arrested on October 8, Mapstone assaulted a police sergeant and detention officer in custody, which was documented as an "unprovoked attack of a serious nature."

On Thursday, October 23, he was jailed for eight weeks, but was also remanded in custody while awaiting sentencing for the other charges.

Other previous convictions include affray and threatening unlawful violence.

Last year, it was also alleged that Mapstone broke into a property in Downton Road on February 15, 2024, yelling "Give me money" to his bedbound dad, Lee Mapstone Senior, who is said to have woken up with his son standing on his leg and punching him in the head. 

His lawyer, Mr Glendenning, had previously told Swindon Magistrates' Court that his client had said the assault didn't happen and therefore he did not enter a plea. 

A trial date was then set for August 5, but on August 28, the court ordered a verdict of not guilty and dismissed the proceedings after the prosecution presented no evidence.

Mapstone, whose first experience of custody was aged 13, had racked up 44 convictions for 85 offences by the time he was 23.
