Tributes paid to much-loved Swindon man who died in M4 crash

The man who died in a crash on the M4 near Swindon has been named locally in emotional tributes by those who knew him.

Emergency services attended the scene of a collision involving one vehicle on the eastbound carriageway between Junctions 17 and 18 of the motorway at around 2am on Sunday, November 30.

Police later confirmed that a 32-year-old man had died and another man in the car had been rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Later that day, posts on social media expressed the shock and grief felt by friends and relatives of Dan Conway, believed to be from Swindon.

Scott Vaughan said: "Sleep tight my friend, my brother, going to miss you so much, way too soon.

"Thank you for making me godfather to [your son], I will keep my promise and look after him.

"You'll never be forgotten, always in our minds and hearts.

"Love you brother, till we meet again, rest in peace.

"Truly heartbroken, love the man, so many good memories."

Jodie Moulton said: "My first love and forever my boy's daddy. I'm lost for words. Love you Dan, my boy."

On Mr Conway's profile, she added: "Love you Dan forever and always! Our beautiful boy will forever remember you and you will live on in his life, I promise."

Jodie also shared a photo of her with Dan and their son with the caption: "I will forever love you, Dan." which received many sympathetic comments of condolence and support.

Paul Simmons said: "I wanna say RIP to Dan Conway, one of the first people who had my back in Swindon.

"Tonight, I think of your entire family. Sleep well, bro."

Wiltshire Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash. No official tribute or confirmation has been released as formal identification of the person who died has not yet been carried out.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are sad to report that a 32-year-old man has died following a road traffic collision involving a single vehicle on the M4.

“The man’s next of kin have been informed and they are receiving support from specially trained officers. Our thoughts are with them.

“Wiltshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage taken from the time to contact them on 01225 694597 quoting log number 40 of November 30."

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent a crew from Malmesbury with appliances from Bath, Yate and Portishead (from Avon Fire and Rescue Service) to assist the ambulance service.
